Poland Flag History And The Flag Company Inc

By Albert Derrick

Poland has had a long and rich history. Over the past thousand years, the country has defended its freedom and sovereignty from foreign aggressions on numerous occasions. Due to country’s geopolitical location between the East and the West, Polish history is marked with wars and uprisings. There was a time when Poland was the largest country in Europe but there was also a stage when it was totally erased from the world map for over a hundred years.

Poland’s national flag is composed of two colors namely red and white. Both colors come in two horizontal forms with equal length and width, the upper portion being white and the lower portion red.

The same pattern was revived after World War I by many Polish nationalist organizations. The red flag with a white eagle was ultimately rejected, however, in favour of a simple horizontal bicolour of white over red adopted on August 1, 1919. The Polish state disappeared from 1939 to 1944 during the Nazi conquest of Europe, but communist-led forces, backed by the Soviet Red Army, returned the white-red flag to Poland. Nevertheless a change was made in the Polish coat of arms: the golden crown that had long appeared on the head of the eagle disappeared.

The red over white flag was first adopted on August 1, 1919. Poland lost its independence again in 1939 when it was invaded by Russia and Germany Independence was restored with the end of the Second World War and the Polish flag was flown again. The Polish flag remained unchanged with the establishment of the Polish People's Republic in 1947 and then the Republic of Poland in 1989.

Because of the great respect of the Polish people to the bravery of their Polish soldiers, the national flag of Poland was designed based on the colors of their soldiers. The colors continued their reign as the national colors of Poland even after the cockades of the soldier were outlawed. The national flag with the national colors of Poland is even used excessively whenever Polish people fight for freedom and independence. It is the main reason why the Polish flag continues to gain respect from different countries all over the world.

There is a barrage of cheap and inferior Poland flags being imported and sold, that do not comply with the flag statute. This is bad for a number of reasons. Some flags are cheaply made and more importantly, the designs, materials, colors, and methods of printing do not compare well with the better quality, longer-lasting, and correctly designed flags. The Flag Company Inc specialized in flag designs offered a special edition of decals and flags to memorize the history of Poland future.
