The Importance Of NAACP Willow Run

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is an organization, which was formed in 1909. It was formed by Moorfield Storey, W. E. B. Du Bois and Mary White Ovington to fight for civil rights of African American citizens. It was also intended to ensure every American citizen regardless of his or her color enjoys economic, political, educational and social equality. First national office of this organization was established in 1910 within New York City. NAACP Willow Run branch works hard to ensure racial prejudices are eliminated.

People running the organization currently, have role of ensuring objectives and also goals of individuals who started organization are accomplished. This body does not only work hard to end race-based discrimination, but also ensuring African-Americans are treated fairly. In last days of 20th century, organization was enlarged to enable it handle issues concerning condition of foreign black refugees and police misconduct.

Other objectives of this body were to make sure racial discrimination barriers are eliminated through democratic means. The body was to enhance enforcement of state, local and federal laws that secure civil rights of citizens. It had objective of educating people on dangers associated racial discrimination. This body was to educate people in order to ensure they know their constitutional rights. Furthermore, it had the duty of ensuring people know their responsibilities for the good of their future.

NAACP has its headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland. In every year, this organization rewards African Americans, who perform well in various categories. Image Award is given to African American, who performs excellently in the entertainment industry. On the other hand, an outstanding performer in any other specialty is rewarded with Spingarn medals.

Michigan, Texas, New York, Maryland and California are some of cities in which regional offices of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People are located. These offices have the responsibility of planning for state conferences. A board that administers NAACP has sixty four members. It is usually headed by a chairperson. Both the president and chief executive of NAACP are elected by members of the board.

NAACP has departments, which perform various functions so as to ensure organization achieves its ambitions. Legal department deals with court cases especially those concerning discrimination in employment places, education and in government. Education department works hard to make sure public education is improved at federal, state and local levels. On the other hand, health division focuses on advancing health care for less privileged people.

This organization has played an essential role in fighting for rights of minorities within society. It has worked hard to ensure African Americans are treated fairly. With the effort of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, a number of states have passed anti-lynching laws.

This organization has also played an essential role in ensuring social and even racial injustices, done to African Americans are addressed. It has also worked extremely hard to meet socioeconomic and even cultural needs of disadvantaged people, who are usually African Americans. It works hard to protect rights of the concerned.
